Let's Start Planning Your New Kitchen…
To help get you started, one of the first questions you need to ask yourself is…
How do I use my kitchen and what style of kitchen will be best for my current home environment?

Answering these two simple questions will allow our kitchen design specialist to begin incorporating the needed directives to planning a kitchen design that fits both you and your family's life style.

Other key questions to consider when planning a new kitchen are:

What are the key reasons behind needing a new kitchen?

What do you and don't you like about your current kitchen?

What is your preferred style of kitchen?
Kitchens come in many different styles and configurations. Our design consultants can help you compare the many benefits and practical advantages between style, form and function.

Do you prefer wood, stainless steel…Classic European or Ultra Modern Contemporary?
Elegant, formal or casual?

What type of layout will work best for you?
Between appliance location, counter top space, cabinetry design/style/configuration, storage areas and the flow of the floor plan, there's a lot to consider.

How far can you go based on the limits and structure of your existing home?

What shape of kitchen will work best for you?
A straight wall kitchen, and center island kitchen, a U-shaped kitchen, a L or G shaped kitchen or a gallery type kitchen? And how will everything fit within that given shape?
If your building a new home, of course you'll have more options to incorporate additional space and added features in the plans.

How easy will it be to prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and the in between snacks?

What about kids in the kitchen and a place for them to easily interact with you while you're preparing or cooking the daily meals? Child safety is certainly something to consider when planning a kitchen design.

How easy is it to reach for something when you need it?
Getting form refrigerator to sink, from sink to cooking top, from counter top to the table, etc.

What about cubby spaces, a convenient food storage pantry, an additional food freezer or a trash compactor, etc.

How much counter top space do I need in preparing food and serving it?

Do I want formica counter tops, real stone marble or GE Corian?

How much floor space do I need for the dinner table and chairs?

Do I want a food counter with stools for quick snacks?

What about having a wide screen TV in the kitchen to watch the morning news and talk shows?

What type of flooring should your kitchen have ? Wood floor, tile floor, vinyl flooring or maybe stone tiles?

Do I want an insta-hot for instant coffee of tea?

What about a deluxe microwave and where is the best spot for it?

What type of sink and disposal and faucet / pull-out sprayer fixture will work best for my needs?
There are so many different styles to choose from.

And what about wall colors and wall coverings to accent and complement the cabinets and appliance color scheme?
Creating the right mood and feel to a kitchen is something that will effect you every time you walk into it.

Cowdin Remodeling & Design is well experienced in very small detail of kitchen remodeling even down to the little things like a cork message tack board or a convenient wine bottle rack.

Here's a check list of kitchen items we've prepared for you to think about before you get your kitchen remodeling project under way:

Kitchen Appliances:

How will the appliances best fit into the existing kitchen space?

Do I want a cooktop/oven combination or separate cooking top and dual over off to the side?

Is the oven self-cleaning and the freezer anti-frost buildup?

What style of cooking will my family be doing in the kitchen? Gourmet or just day-to-day cooking?

What about a stove top ventilation hood system for cooking exhaust?

Will all the appliances be stainless steel or have coordinated matching colors or surface materials?

How energy efficient will all the new appliance be? Will they help me save energy and money in the long run?

Is now the right time to install a really good home water purification filtration system?

What about an ice maker that uses filtered water?

For how many people should the dinner table and chair seating be able to accommodate?

Do any household family members have physical limitations that need to be factored into the kitchen design?

Kitchen Cabinets:

Do my current kitchen cabinets offer enough space for all the dishes, pot & pans and dry food goods?

What style of cabinets will best match the style of my house? Ultra-modern, contemporary, traditional or country?

What type of finish should be on the cabinets?

What type and style of moldings and trim will look best with my new kitchen cabinets?

Do I need a matching cabinet/ work desk for recipe books storage and or doing bills, etc.

What about matching cabinet closet doors to conceal a clothes washer and dryer that share the same kitchen space?

Kitchen Flooring:

What will be the most effective flooring surface material for my new kitchen?

Can I quickly clean up spills without worrying about staining or water damage to the floor?

Will I have to tear off my old flooring or cover over the existing one? Which way will be cheaper or better in the long run?

What type of flooring will be the most durable for daily household traffic?

Do I prefer a softer or harder surfaced feel to the floor?

What about safety? Is the floor surface slippery feeling?

Do I want a solid color or is patterned better?  Don't want it too busy looking as far as patterns go?

Do I want a floor with seams like stone tiles or one solid rolled piece?

Kitchen Countertops:

How much kitchen countertop space will I need?

What type of countertop surface do I want? Natural or man made materials?

Should the countertops be a solid color or have a pattern?

Is the counter top surface easy to clean? Will it easily stain?

Where will I chop, slice and dice food? Not on the countertops.  Where is the cutting board going to be?

Can I set hot pots and pans on the countertops?

Will the surface easily scratch?

Kitchen Sinks & Faucets:

Do I prefer a stainless steel or colored porcelain kitchen sink?

Does the sink blend in well with the countertops and cabinets?

Should the sink be located by the window or cooktop?

Do I need a single, double or triple bowl sink?

What about a garbage disposal unit in the sink?

What type of faucet should the kitchen sink have?
